A big difference between rural and urban communities is the availability of community services, but residents are used to traveling to Sechelt and even Vancouver for some needs such as specialized medical treatments... and designer boots.
Because Pender Harbour is not a municipality, local government services are provided by the Sunshine Coast Regional District, based in Wilson Creek just south of Sechelt.
