Emergency treatments, tests, minor procedures, counseling and other services are performed at the Health Centre by nurses, doctors, a dentist, chiropractor, physiotherapist, mental health workers and others. These private practitioners are listed on Pender Harbour Dot Com >Health & Wellness.
Nursing services include blood pressure monitoring, wound dressing, injections, ear canal syringing, diet counseling, breast self-exam instruction, diabetic counseling and glucometer checks. Drawing of blood, electrocardiograms and specimen dispatch are available from 8:15 a.m. to 3 p.m. In-home nursing is available by doctor’s referral.
Doctors working at the Health Centre may admit patients to St. Mary's Hospital and refer them to specialists both on and off the Sunshine Coast. Health Centre employees may refer patients to the BC Ambulance Service and other health-care agencies.
The Health Centre was built when St. Mary's Hospital was closed in Pender Harbour and moved to Sechelt in 1964. It is operated by the Pender Harbour Health Centre Society and managed by Judi Georgetti, RN. It is funded by space rental to health professionals, Regional District taxation, donations, proceeds from the Bargain Barn thrift store, society membership and fundraisers. Nursing services are provided through a Vancouver Coastal Health Authority contract.
The Health Centre is open 8am to 5pm Monday to Friday at 5066 Francis Peninsula Road (Hwy. 101, Madeira Park). For more information, call the Health Centre at 604-883-2764. Offsite link: Pender Harbour Health Centre.
