For a community of less than 2,500 residents, Pender Harbour has an impressive interest in the arts. With four major music festivals, numerous local authors and local art of all forms on public display, we’re most certainly the arts capital of the Sunshine Coast.

Whether you’re looking to admire and enjoy locally created works, or if you seek inspiration from our lifestyle and scenery, this is the right place.

Live Music

Besides our three big music festivals, the Pender Harbour Jazz Festival, Blues Festival and Chamber Music Festival, you’ll regularly find live music at various locations throughout Pender Harbour.

Garden Bay Pub books live bands throughout the summer and hosts a blues jam session every Sunday. The Legion and Grasshopper Pub occasionally feature live entertainment, and the Pender Harbour Music Society presents an annual concert series at their Centre for the Performing Arts (a.k.a. the Music School). Other musical events are held at the Pender Harbour Community Hall.

  • Larrie Cook - Blues musician and regular host of Sunday jam sessions at Garden Bay Pub, Cook is a founding member of the Pender Harbour Blues Society.

  • Jim McGiliveray - An old-timer on the west coast jazz scene, McGilliveray is a regular guest at the Pender Harbour Jazz Festival.

Visual Arts

A Tribute to Pender Harbour

Our many artists show their works in a variety of mediums and in a number of local studios and galleries as well as public locations such as the Health Clinic and Credit Union. Much of their work is a tribute to the landscape and lifestyle of Pender Harbour. See Pender Harbour Dot Com for listings of galleries, studios and artists.

In the summer of 2004, local artist Ken Walters painted two murals in Madeira Park and then completed a large mural project at the Pender Harbour Aquatic Centre with Emily Carr College of Art and Design student Emily Gray. As Walters continues his work, we see more murals painted in our community, and more artists joining Walters in the muralization of Madeira Park.
