Longboard

“Bricin Lyons (of Pender Harbour) has built a hell of a longboard community that has extended way beyond Vancouver.”

Pender Harbour is home to the annual Attack of Danger Bay longboard race and alma mater to Coast Longboarding founder, Bricin Lyons.

Yes you can longboard year-round in Pender Harbour... well, most years, and the community is totally behind this sport. Bring your helmet, bring padding —we’re deadly serious about safety gear.

Scoot Smith wins IGSA World Cup race

Scott ”Scoot” Smith of Pender Harbour won an IGSA (International Gravity Sports Assn.) World Cup Downhill Skateboard competition Sept. 15, 2007, in Goldendale, Washington.

Smith brought home $1,500 for the top speed of nearly 100 qualified entrants from around the world. Two more BC boys, Mischo Erban and Kevin Reimer, came in second and third, respectively.

Attack of Danger Bay

The annual Attack of Danger Bay longboard race, organized by Bricin Lyons and Coast Longboarding, was the first Canadian downhill longboard event and remains the biggest and best with the biggest cash prizes. It put Pender Harbour on the map with competitors from all over the world, the first ever slide competition, longboard hockey, women’s events, May Day parade participation and of course the cash prizes.

Longboard guru and Coast Longboarding founder, the irrepressible Bricin Lyons, is a Pender Harbour boy who you might have seen on a 2007 episode of the Trailer Park Boys— he hooked up with Ricky and Julian and the rest of em when he and Raggie rolled across Canada to support Push For The Cure, a cancer research fundraiser.

Or, you might have been lucky enough to catch Bricin and the rest of the band, Loose Tooth, performing classical music at Vancouver’s Cambie Hotel. Um, no... wait— we meant classic... classic punk rock. Yeah, that’s it!
