Climate

With 1,906+ hours of sunshine and only eleven days a year below 0°C, Pender Harbour on the Sunshine Coast is a comfortable place to live, work and play.

It's called Sunshine Coast because we have more sunshine than almost anywhere in British Columbia— second only to Victoria airport.

The climate is Coastal Temperate (not Rainforest), with warm, dry summers and mild, rainy winters. Vancouver Island shelters us from harsh Pacific Ocean weather systems, thus creating a “rainshadow” effect.

Climate Normals

Climate normals are weather conditions averaged by the day or month (not record highs and lows).

Since 1954, the Merry Island Weather Station has kept weather statistics. Their hottest day recorded is Aug. 4, 1961, when the temperature hit a sweltering 32.2° C.

Quotes

“The trouble with weather forecasting is that it's right too often for us to ignore it and wrong too often for us to rely on it.” Patrick Young.

“Don’t knock the weather; nine-tenths of the couldn’t start a conversation if it didn’t change once in a while.” Kin Hubbard.

“If you saw a heat wave, would you wave back?” Stephen Wright.
