Public School

History

Bob Donnely donated land on Francis Peninsula for the area's first school in 1915, and children traveled to "the Donnely Landing School" by boat.

In only ten years, the area had five one-room schools in operation (although attendance was scant in fishing season).

“Portuguese Joe” Gonsalves later donated land for the Madeira Park Elementary School, playground, teacherage and Irvine’s Landing School.
