Pender Harbour is known as “Venice of the North” because of its mild climate and intricate waterways that connect every point of the community. Boating between home and the shopping centre, a neighbour’s home and the pub is often quicker than driving.
Visitors to Pender Harbour are most impressed with the friendliness of the people, the beauty of natural surroundings, wide range of outdoor recreation choices and vibrant arts community. We’re just a couple of hours from Vancouver-- c’mon up for a visit to see for yourself!
Visitors envy our lifestyle in Pender Harbour, and it’s one of the main reasons people move here. On the other hand, locals affectionately grumble about “Pender Harbour Time” when trying to accomplish, well, just about anything.

Pender Harbour Lifestyle
What is a Pender Harbour lifestyle?
- It’s casual ... unless you’re racing to Langdale to catch a ferry.
- It’s comfortable ... except when the power is out for... days.
- It’s peaceful ... except for the sounds of chainsaws on early weekend mornings after a windstorm and the occasional bouts of autumn gunfire.
- It’s laid-back ... except for the times you must deal with St. Mary’s Hospital, the Government Agent, SCRD, RCMP, Court, Canada Employment Agency, Social Assistance, Motor Vehicle Branch or some other agency and you have to drive to Sechelt or Wilson Creek (or Vancouver!).
That’s right, a Pender Harbour lifestyle is not absolutely perfect in every way. However, to continue with an honest appraisal, for most of us who live here, it’s about as close as you can get.
