Pender Harbour is home to a relatively large number of visual artists working in a variety of media. Most credit the peaceful, close-to-nature environment for their inspiration, and their work is often a tribute to the landscape and lifestyle of Pender Harbour.

We have a thing for murals, which started in 2004 with a piece at the Madeira Park Shopping Centre by (Ken) Walters. Artists Emily Gray, Melissah Tulloch and others completed murals throughout Pender Harbour and Egmont. Murals can be seen in public places such as the old St. Andrew’s Church, on private property and throughout the shopping area of Madeira Park.

Over the years, Jack Crabb created and donated a number of distinctive wood carvings for public display in Madeira Park, including a rendering of “Portuguese Joe” Gonsalves at the Madeira Park wharf. A walk through the downtown area reveals most of them.
